June 16th 2019 River Report

The Elk River and its tribs opened yesterday and what an amazing opening day it was!

The Elk River in Fernie currently has a discharge rate of 90m3/s with a primary water level of about 2.32 meters, with about 2 feet of visibility.

Although flowing fast and dirty, the Elk River is extremely productive on bigger nymph patterns such as the Double Bead Speckled Stone or the Egg Sucker Black Stone. Also great productivity on top with big dry flys such as the Sofa Pillow and big foam like the Willy’s ant series. We also have been having great success throwing big streamers such as the articulated Circus Peanut and Copper Zonker.

We are open 7 days a week 9am to 5pm! Come say Hi and stock up on all gear and apparel you need for the season! You can reach us at 1.877.423.4483 with any questions you may have!

Tight lines from all of us at Kootenay Fly Shop & Guiding Co.!
