October 9, 2014 Report

Elk River fishing is at an all time best for this fall. Water levels are very low dropping over a foot this last week.

Drifting is easy but lots of poplar trees being dropped into the river by the beavers as they prepare for winter, so be careful floating.

Good dry fly fishing in afternoons from about 12:00-3:00 or later. some days the dry fly starts in the mornings due to the really unusual warm weather as of the last few days.
BWO’s and black Ants are the best these days along with Hoppers and big October Caddis imitations. Nymphs can be good in the mornings with October Caddis pupa and Bird of Prey seem to be doing the business. Streamer fishing is exceptional with a lot of juvenile Bulls being caught on large streamers in Olive and White colors. Big Cutthroats have been eating the streamers too, Black Muddy Buddies are the most consistent in size 4, and 6.

The Elk River does not close until April so enjoy it while the great weather lasts.

See you in the shop.
