The Elk and tributaries are running clear and fishing great. The Elk has been experiencing great hatches which include large Stoneflies, Caddis, Drakes, and Lime/Yellow Sallies. The fish are looking up and are eager to eat. Some suggested flies for cutthroat on the Elk are Orange Crystal Stimulators, Gold Half Down, Ext. Body Green Drakes, Tan Fat Alberts, Snowshoe Caddis Tan, Orange PMXs and Parachute Sallies. The Bull trout are spread throughout the river and will eat streamers as well as nymphs. Bull Trout fly suggestions are Double Bunnies, Wilson’s Sparkle Minnow, Circus Peanut White, Circus Peanut Black and basically any big streamers.
The Wigwam is running clear and fishing well. There are many juvenile Bulls in the lower end of the river which are keen on eating early in the morning and late in the evening. Very large streamers (the bigger the better) have been picking up fish as well as nymphs patterns and egg patterns. The Cutthroat are also looking up to eat Drakes and Caddis.
