All lakes in the East Kootenays are open, with the exception of Summit Lake which still has ice and could mean winter kill. Lakes in the South Country are proving very productive by hanging chironomids and leaches but we at Kootenay Fly Shop have had much success with stripping flies, such as small minnow patterns.
