July 18, 2015 River Update

The Elk river is back on track after the avalanche of rock that blocked off line Creek last week. Weather has cooled considerable at night slowing the glacier melt process allowing the river flows to drop and clear.

With the cloudy weather yesterday we saw good green drake hatches and we’re still seeing lots of lime and yellow Sally’s, Cahills, PMD’s in the late evenings.

The Bull river still is a bit silty but river levels are very good and it is fishing well. Big dries are working Yellow Stim’s size 10,12 are best with Green drake and brown Drakes being the hot flies.

The Wigwam is running very clear and normal flow rates for this time of the season. Fishing Yellow is good for Bull trout on streamer s and large stone fly patterns, and good hatches of Mahogany Duns, Green drakes, Yellow Sally’s.

Michel Creek is very low and clear fishing has been exceptionally good on days with excellent hatches of green drakes. Fish are getting hit hard due to the added pressure so might be a good idea to rest this stream until we receive some more precipitation and bring that flow rate up a bit.

Hope to see you in the shop soon and enjoy our great waters.
